During July 23-27 AAPDEP Director and Secretary, Aisha Fields and Hadyah El traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the National Association of Resale and Thrift Stores (NARTS) 2016 Conference.

The Association serves resale shops of all types by providing educational and professional development for future owners and current store owners/managers. NARTS also promotes communication within the industry and builds public recognition of the industry. Members range from multi-outlet chains to single location shops and the merchandise these stores offer covers the complete gamut of consumer goods.

We attended this conference back in 2014 when Zenzele Consignment was just an idea. Two years later, we attended the conference on the verge of opening our own store that will serve the Huntsville community, but will benefit African communities around the world.

The Conference provided us with the opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings of building a resale store and allowed us to network with other store owners from across the country.    We also use that time to tour other stores in the area, so we can see how to measure success.

It was a great experience.  We are building and getting ready to open Zenzele Consignment this summer!!
